Professor Reiko Ashida is Associate Professor at the Second Department of Internal Medicine, Wakayama Medical University, Japan. She graduated in 1998 and earned her PhD from Osaka City University in 2005. She has been engaged in EUS since 1999, trained in EUS-FNA at Aichi Cancer Center in 2002, and completed an advanced interventional EUS fellowship under Professor Kenneth Chang at the University of California, Irvine (2007–2009). Her expertise lies in endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of pancreatobiliary cancers, with a special focus on interventional EUS. Her current research interests include early pancreatic cancer detection and minimally invasive treatments such as EUS-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (EUS-HIFU). She is a council member and fellow of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (FJGES) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (FASGE), and a council member of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, the Japan Pancreas Society, and the Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine. She also serves on the international editorial board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (GIE).
