Prof Jia-Horng Kao

Jia-Horng Kao

Professor Jia-Horng Kao is a distinguished researcher and clinician in the field of viral hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). He currently holds the position of NTU Chair Professor at the Graduate Institute of Clinical Medicine, National Taiwan University College of Medicine. Additionally, he serves as the President of Gastroenterological Society of Taiwan (GEST), Advancing Clinical Treatment-Liver Disease (ACT-LD) and holds various roles including the Vice Superintendent at the National Taiwan University Hospital.
Professor Kao obtained his medical degree from the National Taiwan University in 1987 and completed his Ph.D. in the Graduate Institute of Clinical Medicine at the same university in 1994. With over three decades of experience, he has made significant contributions to research areas such as the prevention, natural history, molecular virology, pathogenesis, and treatment of chronic viral hepatitis and HCC. His extensive research output includes over 700 articles published in reputable journals, with a high number of citations and an impressive h-index. He has also authored book chapters and monographs, further enhancing the knowledge in his field.
Professor Kao has received numerous accolades for his outstanding contributions to medical research. Professor Kao’s expertise is recognized globally, as he is involved in several international committees and organizations. He is a member of the steering committee of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) and a council member of the Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE).
