Ari Fahrial Syam is a Professor of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia. He is currently the president of the Indonesian Society of Gastroenterology and a member of the Governing Council of ANMA.
His research interest is gastroenterology, specifically Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, GERD, and IBS. His Scopus H-Index by May 2025 is 23. One of his most impactful publications is the Indonesian H. pylori Wide Study, one of the very few H. pylori studies conducted nationally. The result is benchmark data for further H. pylori studies in Indonesia. He also participated as a principal investigator in Asia and International epidemiological studies in FGID.
He was elected Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia, in 2017 and will serve until 2025. He leads a Faculty of over 5,000 students and more than 600 academic staff.
