TC Tseng

Dr. Tai-Chung Tseng is an Associate Professor and attending physician at National Taiwan University Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. He received his M.D. in 2001 and his Ph.D. in 2013. His research focuses on predicting the long-term prognosis of patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) using viral and host biomarkers.

A key contribution of Dr. Tseng’s work is the quantification of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis B core-related antigen (HBcrAg). He demonstrated that HBsAg levels below 100 IU/mL identify inactive CHB patients who meet the criteria for partial HBV cure and are at minimal risk for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). He also showed that HBcrAg levels below 10 KU/mL serve as a crucial marker for detecting HBeAg-negative patients at higher risk of HCC, particularly those in the “gray zone” for antiviral treatment.

Dr. Tseng’s findings have been published as first author in leading journals including Gastroenterology, Gut, Journal of Hepatology, and Hepatology. His work has advanced HBV management by improving risk prediction and biomarker-based prognosis.
