Dr Rakesh Aggarwal is a Professor of Gastroenterology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. He has worked extensively on epidemiologic, clinical, molecular and immunologic aspects of viral hepatitis, with more than 350 published papers.
In relation to viral hepatitis, he served for several years on WHO’s global Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Viral Hepatitis, HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STAG-HHS), WHO South-East Asia Region’s Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on HIV, hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STAG-HHS-SEAR) and Expert Panel for Verification of Hepatitis B Control.
He has held several editorial positions, including at Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (JGH), and has been the President of the Indian National Association for Study of the Liver.
He is also Chair of the JGH Foundation, which co-owns JGH and JGH Open.
