Professor John Wong was born in Hong Kong and received his secondary and tertiary education in Sydney, Australia. He graduated with First Class Honors in both Medical Science (1964) and Medicine (1966) and was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy in 1971, all from The University of Sydney. Professor Wong returned to Hong Kong in 1975 and joined The University of Hong Kong, becoming Professor of Surgery in 1979 and Head of the Department in 1982.
Professor Wong’s clinical research interests have been in esophageal and liver cancers, and vascular diseases, and in recent years restricting his work in esophageal cancer. He has published over 500 original scientific papers and chapters in books. Professor Wong was President of International Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Association, International Society for Digestive Surgery, Pan-Pacific Surgical Association and Asian Surgical Association.
He has been conferred Honorary Fellowships and Memberships of many international surgical colleges or associations, and remains committed to enhance surgical education, quality of research, and clinical service to the community.
