Dr. Wong graduated from the National University of Malaysia and completed his hepatology
fellowship in the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Dr. Wong has a keen interest in
hepatology and is currently a Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Department of
Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Changi General Hospital. He was honoured as the awardee of the prestigious AASLD Early Career Investigator Award in Clinical/Translational
Science 2022, and the AASLD Foundation Healthcare Disparity Research in 2024, the
Nurturing Clinician Scientist Scheme (NCSS) from Medicine ACP, SingHealth, SingHealth
Publish award (2022 & 2025), Clinical Trialist Development Award 2025, and the best oral presentation in GIHEP 2018, 2021, and 2023.
Dr. Wong’s research interests are in the non-invasive prediction of cirrhosis and portal
hypertension, viral hepatitis C, steatotic liver disease and autoimmune liver disease. He has more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals published including the Journal of Hepatology, Hepatology, Clinical Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Clinical & Molecular Hepatology. Dr Wong is a regular speaker at various local and regional scientific meetings.
His significant contribution to the field of hepatitis C in Singapore include treatment among
incarcerated populations and simplified monitoring on HCV patients receiving DAA.
Dr. Wong serves as an editorial board member in Hepatology. Besides his research
endeavour, Dr. Wong is also actively involved in medical education and quality improvement projects and has received numerous awards from the hospital. Currently, Dr. Wong holds concurrent appointments as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School,
Adjunct instructor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Singapore.
