Dr Amit Maydeo

Dr Amit Maydeo is an endoscopic surgeon by training but in the practice of Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy for 35 years and is presently the Chairman of the Institute of Gastrosciences at the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai.
He was one of the first to introduce Interventional GI Endoscopy procedures in India and establish one of India’s first GI Endoscopy centers in 1993.
Dr Maydeo was the first to introduce 3rd space endoscopy procedures in India like POEM, STER, Z-POEM, G-POEM, launch India’s first Bariatric endoscopy program in 2018 as well as anti-reflux procedures like ARMS, ARMA and EFTP in 2019.
He was the President of the Society of GI Endoscopy of India in 2003 and has done pioneering work in endoscopic treatment of chronic pancreatitis, ERCP for difficult bile duct stones, GI bleeding and 3rd space endoscopy over the past 30 years.
He is an avid clinician and researcher and has published more than 90 papers in peer reviewed international journals and 7 book chapters in International and National textbooks. He was appointed on the International editorial board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (Journal of the American Society of GI Endoscopy) and also as a co-editor of the Endoscopy International Open journal (ESGE). He has received the outstanding reviewers award from the ASGE for 4 consecutive years for the past 5 years.
Dr Maydeo was recognized by the Government of India in the year 2013 when he received the Padmashri award for his outstanding contribution to the field of medicine and gastroenterology from the President of India.
He was also the prize winner for India in the 1st World Cup of Endoscopy held in Chicago, USA during the Digestive Disease Week.
Dr Maydeo is an avid teacher and has conducted more than 20 International LIVE endoscopy courses. He has been invited as a visiting faculty in India as well as abroad to demonstrate GI endoscopy procedures. He also runs a popular Endoscopy training institute called as the Endoscopy Gurukul where aspiring young endoscopists from India and abroad are taught basic as well as advanced GI Endoscopic procedures.
