Dr. Montano-Loza is a Hepatologist and Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta, Canada. He is the Medical Director of the Liver Transplant Program, Gastroenterology Division Research Lead and Co-Director of the Autoimmune Liver Clinic. He was the recipient of the Clinical Research Award from the American College of Gastroenterology in both 2011 and 2018, the Canadian National Transplant Research Program Innovation Grant Award in 2018, and the Canadian Liver Foundation Research Grant for 2019. He obtained the 2012 and 2019 Department of Medicine Clinical Investigation Publication Awards, the 2021 Alberta Society of Gastroenterology Distinguished Research Award, the 2023 Research Excellence Award from the Canadian Association for Study of the Liver, and the 2024 Department of Medicine Paul W. Armstrong Excellence in Research Award. He has co-authored over 220 original publications.
