I graduated from Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan in 1996. I finished residency of Internal Medicine and fellowship of Gastroenterology at Keio University Hospital. I received my Ph. D. at Keio University Graduate School in 2005. I had worked as a post-doctoral fellow with Dr. Scott Plevy at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2005 to 2009. After returning to Japan, I had served as a faculty member at Keio University School of Medicine from 2009-2014 and Tokyo Medical and Dental University from 2014 to 2018. I was appointed as a Professor at Toho University Sakura Medical Center in April 2018. I served the President of the Asian Organization for Crohn’s and Colitis between June 2024 and July 2025.
I have been engaged in clinical and basic research in inflammatory bowel disease under the mentorship of Professor Toshifumi Hibi, Professor Mamoru Watanabe, and Professor Takanori Kanai.
I am interested in clinical research to provide evidence to clinical questions raised in daily clinical practice. I believe the results of those studies could contribute to improving the care of patients with IBD.
