Prof Teo graduated with a degree in Medicine from NUS in 1989 and attained his Master of Medicine in Internal Med and MRCP(UK) in 1994. He’s one of the pioneers of Changi General Hospital and has risen up the ranks to Head of Gastro in 2004, Chief of Medicine in 2006, Deputy Chairman of the Medical Board in 2008 and Chairman from 2012-2020. He’s currently the CEO at Sengkang General Hospital and Deputy Group Chairman, Medical Board (Regional Hospital Network) at Singapore Health Services.
While on HMDP training at the University of Michigan Medical Center, he wrote research papers in hepatitis which were published in high impact publications. Prof has also written 2 chapters on Hepatitis B in “UpToDate”. This has remained his forte as he continues to contribute to scientific journals and conference presentations.
Prof Teo was the President of the Singapore Gastroenterological Society from 2008-2010 and Master of the Academy of Medicine Singapore from 2020-2022. Prof holds Professorship from the Duke-NUS GMS, NUS YLL School of Medicine and SUTD. He’s also a member of the LKC School of Medicine Adjunct Teaching Faculty and a Clinical Examiner of MRCP, MBBS and Duke-NUS examinations.
Prof Teo presently chairs the Ministry of Home Affairs Drug Rehabilitation Centre Review Committee and sits on the Singapore Prison Service Medical Advisory Board. Prof was the Chief Editor of the Singapore Medical Journal from 2010-2013 and is a regular reviewer for journals like the Singapore Medical Journal and ANNALS.
Throughout his medical career, Prof Teo has received many awards that included the Public Administration Medal and COVID-19 Resilience Medal for his contributions in the fight against COVID-19 and the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2025 for his contributions as Chairman of the Drug Rehabilitation Centre Review Committee.
